Fall 2017 Life Learning Classes

"Forever" by Paul David Tripp

The Bible assures us that an eternity awaits, but culture has convinced us that this life is all we have. We ignore the call of Forever and search for ultimate fulfillment in the here and now. We buy bigger houses in better locations. We try different relationships and experiment with new hobbies. But we're still unsatisfied. The problem is that we’re looking in the wrong place altogether. In Forever, Paul David Tripp reveals that this life isn’t a destination, but a preparation for a final destination. This is a profoundly different way of approaching life. Having an eternity perspective will enable you to live for something bigger than yourself and larger than this moment. You won’t seek ultimate satisfaction from your relationships, locations and situations. When you understand eternity, you lead a life of greater significance and peace. This class will be taught by Lee Everson, is open to everyone, and will meet in room 200.

"Chase: Chasing After the Heart of God " by Jennie Allen

What are you chasing? "I was eighteen years old. I felt paralyzed in my relationship with God. I knew God was real, but my fancy prayers and daily devotionals were not cutting it. I was doing everything right, but it felt all wrong. Yet I thought I was giving God what He wanted. As I surveyed my life, I realized doing all the right things had won me the admiration of everyone but God. And I felt empty and prideful. It was worse than rebellion: being good with no God. It was beginning to occur to me maybe God was after something else. Maybe I was chasing the wrong things. We’re all chasing after something, something that we think will make us happy—comfort, success, a bigger house, or someone’s approval. But if we are all honest, it feels like trying to catch the wind. A man after God’s own heart… As David’s life weaves throughout the pages of Scripture, we see he was a man who spent his life chasing after God. Chase explores the events that defined David’s life and the Psalms that flowed out of those experiences. Through David’s example we’ll discover what God really wants from us. The lessons in this study are simple yet deep and very interactive, offering Bible study, stories, and projects to dig into Scripture and deeply engage the mind and heart. God has carved out a space in each of us that only He can fill. So whether you are running from God or working your tail off to please Him, David’s journey will challenge your view of God. God is invisible, and yet He is the only thing we can chase that won’t leave us feeling more empty." This class is taught by Julie Rue and is open to all women and will meet in the old coat room.

"Relying on the Holy Spirit" by Charles Stanley

This is a continuation of the class taught by Pauline Bohachek and is open to all women and will meet in the sanctuary.
