  • 15 Hours per week
  • Annual Compensation of $11,700 (salaried, based on $15/hour, 52 weeks)
  • Vacation time based on Emmanuel's Employment Policy

POSITION DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBLE FOR:


The Children’s Ministry Director is responsible for the oversight of all programming and ministry for children ages birth through 6th grade. This includes: Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, summer programmings, special events, etc.


SCOPE OF MINISTRY:


The role of the Children’s Ministry Director is to provide leadership, development and direction for the Children’s Ministry as it pertains to the overall vision of the church, incorporating Emmanuel’s core values. The Children’s Ministry Director will seek to facilitate a program that enables children to be introduced to and grow in a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ and gain knowledge about their faith.


BASIC DUTIES:

  • Choose and prepare curriculum for each program at each age level.

  • Create environments, activities, and programming for each age group that will facilitate learning and encourage spiritual growth.

  • Recruit, train, and lead volunteers for nursery, children’s church, Sunday School, and other childhood specific events.

  • Plan and oversee special events throughout the calendar year: events such as VBS, Christmas Program, Preschool Play Days, etc.

  • Prepare and stay within a yearly budget to be approved by the Board of Stewards.

  • Prepare an annual ministry report to be submitted to the office for publication within the church’s annual report.

  • Maintain a strategy for reaching and assimilation for new children and families.


SPECIFIC TASKS:

  • Oversee the classrooms, equipment, supplies, curriculum and other resources needed to accomplish the ministry

  • Actively recruit and train leaders and helpers for the ministries you oversee

  • Oversee the Sunday School ministry for all ages up to grade 6

  • Oversee the junior church program

  • Schedule ongoing nursery care for weekly and special programs

  • Oversee, participate in and promote the AWANA program (or other mid-week program)

  • Attend staff meetings scheduled by the Senior Pastor

  • Attend and support church events

  • Develop new leaders within your sphere of influence

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Committed Christ follower who is growing in spiritual maturity and feels a call by God into Children’s ministry.

  • Love for children and families.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

  • Ability to recruit, train, and lead and motivate volunteer teams.

  • Be reliable, take initiative and be self-motivated.

  • Embrace and adapt to growth, change, innovation and creativity.

  • Use appropriate judgment in the areas of discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.

  • Have a cooperative, healthy, and motivating relationship with supervisors, coworkers and volunteers.

  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal).

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and relate to children and their families and a passion to see families grow in their faith together.

  • Ability to handle criticism and disappointment in a spiritually mature way.

  • Have a knowledge of basic Christian doctrine

  • Be in full agreement, endorse, and support Emmanuel’s church purpose, vision, covenant, Statement of Faith and be willing to become a member of the church.

  • Coordinates with other members of the church staff

  • Communicates regularly with the Board of Stewards

  • Communicates regularly with parents
